I love listening to podcasts while I work. I've tried listening to music and watching shows but they end up being a lot more distracting. My favorites are always those about creative business & discussing creative processes of artists - particularly lady business owners, but I also like to mix it up with news and entertainment based podcasts.

Here's a list of some of my current favorites:

  1. Start Up
  2. The Daily
  3. 2 Dope Queens
  4. Meditation Minis

Start Up is a great podcast for anyone starting a business or working at a startup, or if you just like learning about entrepreneurship. I started listening back in 2014 for the first season but fell off after that and I recently binge listened and caught up completely with the last four seasons. It takes you only on a journey of starting their own business at Gimlet Media with a lot more transparency than most would be in that situation, from pitching investors, struggling with workplace diversity, work life balance and more. In subsequent seasons they share stories of businesses that are on the brink of shutting down and their struggles, businesses that ended, and businesses that are just starting out. It's really interesting to listen to and learn about how other businesses are run.

The Daily is a New York Times daily podcast that outlines a news event of that day in a really interesting way. I just started listening to it about a month ago and now I listen every day as I make my coffee in the morning. The discuss events like the departure of Steve Bannon from the White House, the recent unfolding of violence in Charlottesville, and even talks about the company Weight Watchers in a changing weight loss climate of America. It's a quick listen (19-22 minutes) and an entertaining and educational way to get a news snippet in the morning.

I discovered 2 Dope Queens after hearing Jessica Williams' (one of the queens) interview with Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air. It's actors and comedians Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson's hilarious banter along with other lesser known minority comics doing a little bit of stand up. It. is. so. funny. I can bust out ugly laughing listening to nearly every episode of this show. It feels like just hanging out with friends and being silly. I HIGHLY recommend listening. You will crack up.

I've been working on getting into a daily morning meditation practice and I enjoy guided meditations to help as I work on my practice. Meditation Minis is sort of cheesy and a lot of them are picturing yourself wandering down a beautiful garden path BUT it also is a great, short meditation that doesn't feel too intimidating to commit to in the morning. Each episode is around 10-15 minutes and is the perfect amount of time in the morning to slow down and center your breath and thoughts before diving in to a day's work. The host, Chel Hamilton, also started a new collaborative meditation podcast with a friend called Mindshift Meditations which I'm also listening to.

Would love to hear any recommendations on other creative business (or any genre) podcasts. I'm always looking for something new to listen to!
